These illustrations are from the book A Child’s Book of Myths and Enchantment Tales (1941), written and illustrated by Margaret Evans Price. Price was an American illustrator and painter who studied at the Normal Art School in Massachusetts. She illustrated several children’s books and painted murals, portraits, and still life paintings.
After years as a painter and illustrator, Price went on to start the Fisher-Price toy company with her husband, Irving Price, Herman G. Fisher, and Helen Schelle. Price became the first art director of Fisher-Price toys, creating a line of toys inspired by children’s books and famous tales such as the ones depicted in this book.
