Today, Zaculeu is a popular but remote tourist attraction. Visitors can see Zaculeu in all its former greatness. However, some structures have been left unrestored by archaeologists so that visitors can see what became of Zaculeu in the five centuries between the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors and the present day.

Ceramic Incensario on Display in the Museum

A permanent museum has been built at the site to house artifacts found in the excavations around Zaculeu. These items include pottery, masks, and jewelry. This ceramic incense burner, or incensario (above), is one such artifact on display in the museum. The item is decorated with human heads on the sides as effigies.
