Warwick Goble

Once Upon a Canvas: Exploring Fairy Tale Illustrations from 1870-1942

Warwick Goble (1862-1913)

Warwick Goble was born in 1862 and raised in London. With a brilliant sense of color, a high sense of style, and influenced by Japanese watercolor techniques, Goble soon became the designated artist for many Asian storybooks such as Folk Tales of Bengal (1912) and Indian Myth and Legend (1913). Goble created many memorable images of fantastical mermaids and fairies, and finally passed away in 1943, leaving a rich bounty of watercolor plates as his legacy.
